Disappointed in Democrats, again

Posted on May 1st, 2008 by Kwiltshaq : Courageous Pioneer Kwiltshaq
I have struggled for over a year between the call to apathy or to activism.  To vote or not to vote, that was my question.  With Obama's recent retreat from any real honest discussion that American Imperialism IS terrorism, WAR is terrorism and that the Bush Regime are supreme terrorists; stooping even to terrorizng the people who keep this country operating on a fundamental and grass-roots level within our own borders (the current immigrant "crisis")... I am so done with politics on a national level.  How can I believe in a message of hope that does not denounce war and imerialism as the most heinous of terrors?  The US is like the big authoritative adult, raping the 6 year old child.  It's heinous and any shying away from the discussion is equally as heinous, in my mind.

Impeachment

George McGovern Calls for Bush and Cheney's Impeachment
Posted by Paul Rosenberg, Open Left on January 6, 2008 at 9:01 AM.

"Nixon Was Bad. These Guys Are Worse."

Calling it "the only honorable course" for him to take, Former Senator George McGovern calls for impeachment.

In a Washington Post editorial, "Why I Believe Bush Must Go", former Senator George McGovern has called for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney, saying they "are clearly guilty of numerous impeachable offenses." McGovern went on to say that "American democracy has been derailed throughout the Bush-Cheney regime."

In addition to the folly, deceit, illegality and immorality of the Iraq War, McGovern also cited the bungling of Hurricane Katrina.

"Impeachment is unlikely, of course," McGovern wrote, "But we must still urge Congress to act."

Impeachment, quite simply, is the procedure written into the Constitution to deal with presidents who violate the Constitution and the laws of the land. It is also a way to signal to the American people and the world that some of us feel strongly enough about the present drift of our country to support the impeachment of the false prophets who have led us astray. This, I believe, is the rightful course for an American patriot.

McGovern went on to quote former representative Elizabeth Holtzman, a key figure in the Nixon impeachment proceedings, who wrote two years ago:

A President, any President, who maintains that he is above the law -- and repeatedly violates the law -- thereby commits high crimes and misdemeanors."

While convetional wisdom sees impeachment as divisive, McGovern sees things from the opposite perspective, stressing the need for healing and restoration:

I believe we have a chance to heal the wounds the nation has suffered in the opening decade of the 21st century. This recovery may take a generation and will depend on the election of a series of rational presidents and Congresses. At age 85, I won't be around to witness the completion of the difficult rebuilding of our sorely damaged country, but I'd like to hold on long enough to see the healing begin.

Voting... the thinking person's dilemma

Posted on Jan 6th, 2008 by Kwiltshaq : Courageous Pioneer Kwiltshaq
C4Chaos posted this bookmark today http://glassbooth.org/ and I am so grateful that he did!  I took the quiz and found it to be fascinating to see exactly how the candidates rank in connection with my own personal feelings on the current "buzz" issues.

This quiz is very wonderful in that it suggests that there are others who vote based upon their principles as oppossed to voting for "who can win."  This has long been an issue that I have held close to my heart.  It is often true that the candidate who reflects my values most closely is not the media's darling.  Many people feel that a vote for priniciple is a thrown away vote... hmmm.  I think that the revolution begins when everyone stands true to their personal values and votes based on who reflects them the most closely without regard for "who everyone else is voting for."  Could it be that a large reason that we are in the situation that we currently face is because we "voted for who can win?"  When we forget just forget about what the neighbors think, or who Fox News deems a valuable candidate when we go into the booth and vote true to our principles, this is where transformation lies.

Joyous Creation

Posted on Jan 4th, 2008 by Kwiltshaq : Courageous Pioneer Kwiltshaq
What a crazy busy time the last few weeks have been.  Not that they have been bad.  I feel like I can look back at the last 10 weeks and it feels like it was all crammed into three days.  My perception of time seems to have accelerated.  My friend Tom said, "Yes.  It's true... time flies when you get older."  I said something about how he must feel so very off-kilter then, and he was slightly taken aback and asked, "because I am so OLD, you mean?"  Not that I think old is bad.  I wish I could live in a 55 and older complex, truth be told.  It is just that if age is the accelerator and I percieve time as flying by very, very quickly then someone who has 30 years on me would, it would stand to reason, experience life at an even faster pace.  I am a joyful creator and am relaxing into the flow of well-being, no matter how scary-fast it seems like it is flowing ;)

The neighborhood children are still out of school for the winter holidays.  They are roaming around and screaming and having fun and I wonder why children are not required to be on leashes like my dogs are?  They are far more disruptive and destructive... just kidding...

My vision seems to have found clarity and I owe that clarity in its entirety to relaxing into the current experience and feeling the better feeling thought.  It is amazing how simple the answer to life's most difficult questions are.  The more you get into the habit of choosing the better-feeling thought, the easier it becomes to choose that better-feeling thought again and again and the better-feeling thoughts pile up and become mega-better-feeling thoughts.
